Nanjing Electric has won the bid for the Baihetan–Zhejiang Ultra-High-Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project.

On November 18, the State Grid’s e‑procurement platform announced the winning bid results for insulator products in the Baihetan–Zhejiang ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project. Nanjing Electric Insulator Co., Ltd. secured contracts for nearly 370,000 glass insulators, ranking first among all manufacturers of glass insulators participating in the tender in both quantity and contract value.
The Baihetan Hydropower Project is a key initiative undertaken to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instruction to “prioritize ecology and pursue green development, and advance the development of hydropower resources on the Jinsha River in a scientific and orderly manner,” as well as to fulfill the CPC Central Committee and the State Council’s directives to “promote ecological progress, accelerate adjustments to the energy structure and supply-side reform, and ensure both energy security and ecological sustainability.” It represents a major undertaking aimed at vigorously advancing hydropower development in Southwest China and increasing the supply of clean electricity.
As a key project under the West-to-East Power Transmission initiative, once completed, the Baihetan–Jiangsu and Zhejiang ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission projects will leverage the Baihetan Hydropower Station to deliver large-scale hydropower from Sichuan to the East China region. These flagship grid projects will play a vital role in optimizing the investment structure, facilitating the integration of clean energy, and advancing targeted poverty alleviation through electricity. They are of great significance for boosting the consumption of Sichuan’s hydropower, meeting the growing electricity demand in Zhejiang, and driving technological innovation while serving as model projects.
The Baihetan–Zhejiang ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission project has a total line length of approximately 2,140 kilometers. One end is connected to the right-bank substation of the Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world’s second-largest hydropower plant, while the other end serves Zhejiang’s major load center. The transmission line traverses Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Hubei Province, Anhui Province, and Zhejiang Province, with a planned total investment of RMB 29.3 billion. In November 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the project’s construction.
According to the tender documents, all the glass insulator products awarded to Nanjing Electric are 550 kN DC bell‑type units, with delivery scheduled for locations including Liangshan and Yibin in Sichuan Province, as well as Chongqing.
This successful bid marks Nanjing Electric’s second win in the Baihetan hydropower transmission project, following its earlier award for the Baihetan–Jiangsu ±800 kV UHVDC project. With this achievement, Nanjing Electric has secured contracts for both the key State Grid projects—the Baihetan–Jiangsu and Baihetan–Zhejiang ±800 kV UHVDC transmission lines—totaling 620,000 glass insulators. In terms of both quantity and contract value, Nanjing Electric ranks first among all manufacturers of glass insulators.
