Nanjing Electric (formerly Nanjing Electrical Porcelain Factory) traces its origins to the Central Electrical Porcelain Manufacturing Plant of the Nationalist Government’s Resources Commission, which was established in 1936. The company is a pioneering high-voltage electrical porcelain manufacturer in the history of China’s electrical industry and the birthplace of tempered glass insulators, capacitor bushings, and spark plugs in China. It has been honored with titles such as “National Advanced Collective in the Machinery Industry” and “Machinery Industry Enterprise with Modernized Management,” and has twice received the Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in China’s machinery sector. Furthermore, it has been consistently listed among China’s Top 500 Machinery Enterprises and recognized as a leading enterprise in its industrial sector for many consecutive years.

Growing Up
In 2005, the company was restructured from a state-owned enterprise into a private enterprise, with Guangzhou Baiyun Electric Group as its shareholder. To meet the demands of power‑grid construction—particularly ultra‑high‑voltage projects and smart‑grid development—and to accelerate industrial growth, Baiyun Electric leveraged its established base in Nanjing by investing in the Nanjing Electrical New District within the Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone. This new district covers 350,000 square meters of land and boasts a total floor area of 190,000 square meters. It houses enterprises such as Nanjing Electrical Insulator Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Electrical High‑Voltage Bushing Co., Ltd., which specialize in the R&D and production of various insulators and high‑voltage bushings. Furthermore, the park serves as the site for establishing Baiyun Electric’s East China headquarters. The first phase of the project was fully completed and commissioned in 2015, and the glass‑component production line was brought online in 2016.

Nanjing Electric boasts an Insulator and High-Voltage Electrical Apparatus Testing Center accredited by the National Accreditation Body, a Mechanical Industry Glass Insulator Engineering Technology Center, and the Jiangsu Provincial Ultra- and Extra-High Voltage Bushing Engineering Technology Research Center. The company specializes in manufacturing Leidian‑brand glass, composite, and porcelain insulators, as well as oil‑filled, fiberglass‑reinforced, and resin‑impregnated paper high‑voltage capacitor bushings—products that support transmission and transformation projects. Its offerings enjoy full coverage of the domestic market and are exported to more than 70 countries and regions worldwide.
In particular, Nanjing Electric’s Leidian‑brand tempered glass insulators have enjoyed more than 60 years of continuous production since 1958, with cumulative sales exceeding 100 million units—accounting for one‑half of the national market and one‑sixth of the global market. These products have been deployed on 24 ultra‑high‑voltage transmission lines, contributing to major national infrastructure projects such as “West-to-East Power Transmission,” “Anhui‑to‑East Power Transmission,” “Xinjiang‑to‑Outbound Power Transmission,” “Shaanxi‑to‑Outbound Power Transmission,” “Mongolia‑to‑Outbound Power Transmission,” and “North China‑to‑South Power Supply,” as well as to the Belt and Road Initiative and global power‑sector development.
