Nanjing Electric Achieves a Strong Start to the 13th Five-Year Plan Period

In 2016, Nanjing Electric (Group) Co., Ltd. seized the strategic opportunities presented by UHV grid construction and the Belt and Road Initiative, fully leveraging the favorable conditions created by its new production capacity in the emerging industrial zone. By strengthening market development, technological innovation, and production assurance, the company achieved robust growth—booming sales and production—amid widespread challenges facing the manufacturing sector, securing a strong start to the 13th Five-Year Plan period and marking a significant leap forward on its new platform.
For the people of Nanjing Electric, 2016 was an extraordinary and unforgettable year. Amid the myriad difficulties and challenges posed by the new normal of the economy, the company, from top to bottom, set its sights on building a new platform and launching a new phase of development. Seizing the opportunity presented by the 80th anniversary of the plant’s founding, the company capitalized on the peak period of national UHV infrastructure construction and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. By fully leveraging the favorable conditions created as the new industrial zone was completed and put into operation—along with the gradual expansion of production capacity—the company focused on key national projects and international markets, adjusted its structure, ramped up production and marketing efforts, refined its management, and accelerated both speed and efficiency, thereby achieving leapfrog growth.
In 2016, Nanjing Electric successfully commissioned a new production line for glass insulator components, won bids for four UHV projects, and completed the manufacture and delivery of products for five UHV projects. The company also secured a major contract in the China Electric Equipment Egypt project, leaving a significant mark on the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. In line with its corporate strategy and business development needs, Nanjing Electric established and put into operation Jiangxi Electric Porcelain Co., Ltd., integrated and set up a new high-voltage bushing company, and launched a current transformer project. The company accelerated the R&D of key new products; its independently developed 1-million-volt high-voltage bushings and dry-type bushings, as well as the 840 (1,000) kN and multi‑shed series DC glass insulators, have successively passed national-level appraisals, with their overall technical performance reaching international advanced and even leading levels, respectively.
In 2016, Nanjing Electric celebrated the 80th anniversary of its founding with a grand ceremony themed “Rooted in Our Mission, Passing on the Torch,” marking an unprecedented milestone. The company also published a commemorative volume, “A Brief History of the Company,” documenting eight decades of development and remarkable achievements. Furthermore, the 14th Party Congress was held, during which a new Party Committee and Commission for Discipline Inspection were elected. The company successfully applied for the Qixia District Chief’s Quality Award and was shortlisted for the Nanjing Mayor’s Quality Award. Additionally, it co‑hosted the annual conference of the Insulators and Surge Arresters Branch of the China Electrical Equipment Industry Association. (Zhao Xinsheng)
