Nanjing Electric has won the bid for the State Grid’s Fuzhou–Xiamen Ultra-High-Voltage AC Transmission Project.

On May 23, the State Grid Corporation’s tendering information platform announced the winning bids for the eighth batch of UHV project procurements in 2022—including the first round of line‑material tenders for projects such as the Fuzhou–Xiamen line. Nanjing Electric Insulator Co., Ltd. was awarded contracts to supply nearly 80,000 glass insulators. This marks the 28th UHV project win for Nanjing Electric since 2011.
The State Grid Fuzhou–Xiamen 1,000-kV UHV AC Transmission Project is, following the Fujian–Zhejiang and Fujian–Guangdong UHV AC projects, another major energy artery within Fujian Province and a key component of Fujian’s “power transmission from north to south” initiative. Its construction will robustly ensure the outbound transmission of power from northern Fujian and the reliable supply to the southern load centers, further facilitating large-scale integration of clean energy and advancing the transition toward a cleaner, lower‑carbon energy system. At the same time, it will strengthen the backbone grid structure in Fujian, significantly enhancing power supply capacity and reliability in coastal areas while addressing the existing weaknesses in the grid infrastructure of central and western Fujian. Moreover, the project will extend the East China UHV main grid into the southern load‑center region of Fujian, increasing the province’s external power reception capacity by 4 million kW, improving power supply reliability in Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, and other cities, and providing strong support for the stable operation of the Fujian–Guangdong interconnection project, thereby fostering high‑quality economic and social development in Fujian.
The Fuzhou–Xiamen UHV AC transmission project employs China’s independently developed, internationally advanced UHV transmission technology. It originates at Rongcheng Substation, passes through Changtai Substation, and terminates at Jimei Substation. The project includes the construction of a new Changtai Substation, the expansion of Rongcheng and Jimei Substations, an additional substation capacity of 6 million kVA, and the erection of a 238‑kilometer double-circuit 1,000‑kV transmission line. With a total investment of RMB 7.1 billion, construction commenced on March 24, 2022, and the project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2023.
